NRA Basic Training Programe Back to Programs

This course is an introduction to pistols and to the skill, knowledge and attitude required to own and use one safely. It is similar to the provisional licensee training programme though it does not focus as much on the law of self defense.

Classroom
There are 8 hours of lectures and a multiple choice exam. The lectures cover the parts and functioning of firearms and ammunition, components, malfunctions and storage, the fundamentals of marksmanship, selection of a firearm, the rules of gun safety, and how to use and store a gun safely. This course is a must do for all.

Range Work
Shooters are introduced to shooting starting from a seated position and then moving to standing from various distances. The focus of the training is on getting the fundamentals right and building the confidence required for handling a firearm competently and safely.
